I think Donegal are a bit on the back foot this weekend. They expected to beat Tyrone which would have suited us as they might have rested a few. McGee & McGonagle are big losses for them but I think Patten is key. If he doesn't make it Cavan have a real chance and should be very aggressive on kickouts. opa01 (Cavan) - Posts: 524 - 30/05/2025 16:56:08 2613657 Link 0 |
I wouldn't get over carried away with Cavan's chances this weekend.. Donegal will be sore after loosing at home to Tyrone and even though they could loose again and qualify such as the stupidly of these group matches I'm certain they will go all guns blazing not to risk all on the last game… We were very good v Mayo but they were so off it for whatever reason it's kinda difficult to know where we are .. We have a terrible habit of following up an good performance with an absolute stinker especially when playing at home… Hopefully we turn in a similar performance as we did b Mayo but even that might not be enough.. We are in a great position to qualify as it's difficult to see Mayo winning any game… hopefully ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4041 - 31/05/2025 06:45:08 2613693 Link 0 |
Well that Mayo win has really blown the group… didn't see that result or performance coming.. ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4041 - 01/06/2025 08:35:39 2613903 Link 0 |

A 19pt defeat at home is nothing short of embarrassing…. Nothing more can be said..!!! ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4041 - 01/06/2025 15:46:48 2614016 Link 1 |
Not a great day at the office lads. Another bite at the cherry beckons. But it really depends on how galligan can dust that off. The expectations will be low so no better time to take that tyrone scalp. Creilly_Baby (Cavan) - Posts: 44 - 01/06/2025 18:49:59 2614096 Link 1 |
Its Mayo they have had those performances many times when not expected. They were flat as a pancake against cavan but got a win with the pressure kn. Cavan played well enough today in the first half but the goal before half time was a big set back. Poor play to be overturned and donegal had loads of space to exploit. The second half was a miss match. James Smith and lynch were introduced but not up to the pace of things. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2883 - 01/06/2025 19:07:50 2614104 Link 0 |
Cavan need Donegal to beat Mayo next time out and that result regardless of our result v Tyrone would mean Cavan through to knockout stages eduardo66 (Cavan) - Posts: 73 - 01/06/2025 20:51:23 2614146 Link 0 |
We competed at their level for the first 30mins and then the gap in mental strength became apparent. Fair enough, during the crucial period, 10 mins before half time and ten mins into the second, Murphy was the difference in the sides. What a fantastic player. His two pointers and clinical runs caused havoc and created space for others, especially for their first, and most important goal, before the break. You could see that we had broken mentally, on and off the pitch. Our composure was gone in no small part due to Mc Guinness's antics on the line. ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 466 - 02/06/2025 11:12:44 2614250 Link 0 |
The danger is they could assume we'll lose to Tyrone and so they can't finish top. So they might rest up. Risky approach but is it more risky than trying to go to the well 4 weeks on the spin? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5263 - 02/06/2025 11:53:32 2614259 Link 0 |
Correct. Mayo are possibly more precariously placed than Cavan despite the weekend results. A Cavan win could knock out Tyrone or Donegal Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1230 - 02/06/2025 12:01:47 2614264 Link 0 |
A draw would be enough for Mayo if Cavan are defeated..

The issue for me is that we have to abandon this zonal marking on kickouts. This is exactly what happened against Tyrone. Donegal cleaned us out at midfield for practically the whole of the second half. Several times we had one Cavan player jumping with 2 or 3 Donegal players. It was very easy for them to pickup the broken ball because our lads were in another zone and we couldn't get help. In turn it was easy for them to run up such a big score with such an amount of possession. ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 573 - 02/06/2025 19:04:43 2614403 Link 0 |
Very disappointing second half after a great first half. The killer been the 1-1 at the end of 1st half. The tension that McGuinness caused on the sideline transported to the crowd, and players. This was clearly diliberate. Amazing Sunday Game didn't highlight. The Ref also gave several soft frees at this stage. Murphy dominated and Donegal suddenly had a 5 point half time lead. Cavan sadly made so many mistakes in the second half. A few wides at the start of 2nd half knocked more pressure on Cavan, and mistakes followed. Subs made mistakes, and little impact. Donegal were in control. The pace difference between both teams was huge. Players kept working, but it was a too streched and a big gap. I was totally correct in my fears for Cavan going into this game… We just can never seem to put back to back good performances together.. Our home record in recent times is nothing short of shocking.. a 1-13 return is really a first half score under these new rules yet we could only manage that over 75/80 minutes play.. It's difficult to see us getting anything out of the Tyrone game but we may still qualify if Donegal beat Mayo but I wouldn't be surprised if a draw was conjured up in that one… ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4041 - 03/06/2025 09:42:48 2614479 Link 0 |
"Cavan Came crashing back down to earth with a heavy defeat to Donegal and will need a favour from Jim McGuinness's team to progress from group one. With Tyrone needing to win it is hard to see Cavan gaining any points against them" goonie (Cavan) - Posts: 311 - 03/06/2025 23:15:07 2614706 Link 1 |
The fear is that Cavan will get hammered again v Tyrone. That fear is always there with Cavan nowadays. If only we could lose by a few points, that would be massive. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5522 - 04/06/2025 23:52:29 2614973 Link 0 |
If we are talking about celebrating loosing a game by a few points then clearly we have no business whatsoever being in this competition….

Can the Cavan team not give in a sick note and let the team concentrate on the next outing. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 486 - 05/06/2025 20:17:46 2615201 Link 0 |
As in forfeit the game and hope forward Donegal win to put us thru? I wouldn't go that far. But I would make wholesale changes. Get minutes into Lynch and James Smith. Gearoid too. And anyone else who needs it. Rest anyone in need of it too - Faulkner, Holla, Carolan, etc. Essentially, be 100% ready for a preliminary quarter final the following week, and if that doesn't materialise then so be it. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5263 - 07/06/2025 15:36:27 2615519 Link 0 |
