Getting back to the Mayo Cavan game, and whilst all the talk of scoring forwards or not is relevant I'm not sure how much Cavan pushed to really compete in the game. offtheditch (Cavan) - Posts: 163 - 21/05/2024 13:12:34 2546140 Link 0 |
Did you see the U-20 team play against Derry…? Obviously not… In a must win knockout game all the players in defence…. You will never unearth a decent forward with that type of coaching…

Belief is a buzz word since McGuinness' return but I'd agree belief is a big issue in Cavan. If we had been playing Monaghan in Castlebar, would we have been taking pot shots from the corner flag? I don't think so. Even in general life outside of sport, I would say Cavan people lack belief or a bit of arrogance which can be helpful. On Saturday, the first half was a marvellous opportunity to have a go at Mayo; a strong wind behind us, no sweepers, great conditions. The balance of the team was wrong and we showed no bite or aggression and that probably comes from lack of belief. Still, not all lost. Provided that Mayo get the win in the Hyde, we will go into a winner takes all game on the final day. Win that, hopefully draw Monaghan and then we will be heading to Croker 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 378 - 21/05/2024 21:55:44 2546266 Link 1 |

Everybody singing from the same hymn sheet with the post s I've read. Lack of self believe from management, team and fans. Is there a sense of throwing in the towel against Mayo and Dublin and hoping for the best for the Roscommon game. Why didn'twe have a cut at Mayo as the Dubs will give us a good drubbing. Paddy Lynch injury is obviously the catalyst for doom and gloom instead of opportunity for others to step up to the plate. desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 209 - 22/05/2024 11:46:05 2546355 Link 0 |
I can't understand why teams like Cavan go out against supposedly superior opponents like say Mayo on Saturday with the mindset of damage limitations.. what's the point..? you are going to loose for sure with that attitude so why no give the game a go..? We have 19/20 of a back room staff all getting paid expenses of one degree or other and this is the best they could come up with against a fairly limited Mayo team… Heaven help us !!!! As RHF has stated and I agree… the blame for our lack of forwards can't be left at the door of what's going on presently at U-20 level but it does go back to the absolute dire tatics used when we won 4 in a row Ulster U21 titles many years ago… All the above mentioned forwards came from a period where attacking football was encouraged and risks were allowed to be taken… Do you think the caviller approach of Larry Reilly or other attackers of that time would be tolerated now…? No chance… all attacking instincts would be coached out of them by ultra cautious no risk management set ups.. That's the reason we have no score getting forwards coming through… Just look at last Saturday… we took the field with just 3 recognised forwards, 2 of which didn't register a score and over 75 minutes of playing time we managed 4 points from play… pathetic ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3055 - 23/05/2024 13:39:22 2546591 Link 0 |
