Gowna’s hopes of a three-in-a-row triumph went up in smoke today as Ramor United defeated them by 2-10 to 1-11 at Kingspan Breffni to advance to the Cavan senior football championship final against Crosserlough.

Second-half goals from Gareth Mannion and skipper Jack Brady were what surged the Virginia men past the holders and towards a first Oliver Plunkett Cup decider in three years.

Ramor had edged a 0-8 to 0-7 half-time lead thanks to Matthew Smith’s injury-time free and hit the jackpot a dozen minutes into the second-half when Mannion burst through to find the bottom corner of Daire Madden’s net.

Gowna trimmed the difference down to two before Brady found their net again with eight minutes remaining, and even a goal at the other end from Sean Hartin wouldn’t be enough to save them from this surprise defeat.

The later game at the Cavan Town venue saw All-Ireland junior champions Arva booking their place in the county’s intermediate decider against Butlersbridge after edging out Cuchulainns by 0-13 to 0-11 in the replayed semi-final at the Cavan Town venue.
