Crosserlough are into their first Cavan senior football championship final in four years after holding off Cavan Gaels for a 0-10 to 0-8 victory at Kingspan Breffni tonight.

The Kilnaleck men’s sizzling start saw them into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead inside eight minutes and points from Matthew Costello (2) and Brandon Boylan would see them six to the good come half-time, with Luke Molloy having managed the Gaels’ sole score for the opening half three minutes in.

The Cavan Town side grabbed the opening two points of the resumption via Gearoid McKiernan before they were erased by Kieran Smith and James Smith, leaving it at 0-9 to 0-3 with 15 minutes remaining.

The Gaels did come with a late push that saw Emmanuel Shehu, McKiernan (3) and John Fortune all raising white flags, but Crosserlough were able to hold out after Stephen Smith registered their 10th point of the night in the 56th minute.

The 2020 champions now look forward to a final date with the winners of holders Gowna and Ramor United (Sunday, 3pm) in two weeks’ time.
