Conhuír Johnston has had the red card he received in Cargin’s Antrim SFC Round 2 victory over St John’s rescinded following a successful appeal.
The rising Antrim football star was controversially sent off by referee Colm McDonald for an incident involving St John’s goalkeeper Pearce Donnelly moments after scoring his second goal. The defending champions went on to win by 3-13 to 1-14, but they weren’t happy with the dismissal, with manager Ronan Devlin describing it as “the harshest red card you’ll ever see”.
Johnston will now be available for tomorrow evening’s third round clash with Dunloy in Portglenone, the winners of which will top Group 1. Both teams are already assured of quarter-final spots after winning their first two games, with Cargin having accounted for Tír na nÓg, Randalstown in Round 1.
