The North’s Sports Minister Gordon Lyons attended his first GAA event in Co. Antrim yesterday.
The DUP MLA visited Ulster GAA’s ‘Games For All Festival’ which was hosted by Kickhams GAC in Creggan. The Festival featured more than 300 participants along with 160 coaches from various clubs, while Armagh captain Aidan Forker also brought the Same Maguire Cup along.
The Minister’s visit came after he was criticised for turning down previous invites to GAA events, including the All-Ireland SFC final.
“I always welcome the opportunity to see people of all ages and abilities coming together in sport – and doing so in a way which is inclusive and accessible,” he said.
“Being active contributes significantly to better physical and mental health. I commend the many organisations who work to encourage and support participation, and applaud all those involved in today’s event.”
